BioPontus C. Brandt is the project scientist for the New Horizons mission and the principal investigator for the Jovian Energetic Electrons (JoEE) and Jovian Energetic Neutrals and Ions (JENI) instruments (PEP-Hi) on board the European Space Agency’s (ESA) Jupiter Icy Moons Explorer (JUICE) spacecraft. He also recently served as the project scientist for the Interstellar Probe Mission Concept Study. He has been with APL since 2000, served as the assistant supervisor of the Solar and Space Physics Group within APL’s Space Exploration Sector (SES) from 2012 to 2021, and is currently also working within the chief scientist office of SES. Dr. Brandt has been involved with NASA’s Imager for Magnetopause-to-Aurora Global Exploration (IMAGE), Two Wide-angle Imaging Neutral-atom Spectrometers (TWINS), and Cassini missions as well as ESA’s Cluster, Mars Express, and Venus Express missions. In 2021, he was elected full member of the International Academy of Astronautics. His expertise spans planetary space plasma environments; their interaction with the solar wind at various planetary systems such as Earth, Saturn, Jupiter, Venus, and Mars; as well as the interaction between the heliosphere and the very local interstellar medium.
