Tessa Van Volkenburg is an associate staff engineer whose research focuses on the design and testing of in situ devices for biosignature purification, concentration, and detection in extreme environments. Her recent work includes developing novel sample preparation platforms and sensing strategies for Earth’s ocean and extraterrestrial icy moons. Her areas of expertise include synthesis and characterization of stimuli-responsive polymers and biomaterials, nanoencapsulation strategies, microfluidic separations, and fluid modeling in microgravity.
