Computerworld Names Johns Hopkins APL to 2026 List of Best Places to Work in IT
The Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) in Laurel, Maryland, has been named by Foundry’s Computerworld to its list of Best Places to Work in IT for the eighth consecutive year.
APL’s Information Technology Services Department (ITSD) delivers secure, innovative, and reliable technology solutions that enable the Lab’s groundbreaking research, including space and national security missions. From advanced computing and data infrastructure to cutting-edge collaboration tools, ITSD equips APL staff to work efficiently and effectively at any time and from anywhere.
“Our continued recognition by Computerworld is a direct reflection of the innovation, engagement, and dedication our staff brings to the Lab every day,” said ITSD Head Michael Misumi. “We’re not just keeping up with emerging technologies — we’re using them to empower our people and enhance the Laboratory’s ability to tackle the nation’s most critical challenges. That’s what makes APL a best place to work year after year.”
The Best Places to Work in IT list is Computerworld’s annual ranking of the top work environments for technology professionals. The list is compiled based on a comprehensive questionnaire regarding company offerings in categories such as benefits, career development and training, workplace culture, workplace modernization, IT growth, and employee engagement and retention.
“It’s clear that AI is having a disruptive impact on IT operations and IT talent,” says Barbara Call, global director of content strategy at Foundry. “This year’s honorees demonstrate how organizations are proactively evolving their talent strategies to fill much-needed skills gaps and reskill existing staff to be more resilient and responsive to changing needs.”
