BioDr. Shanna Ratnesar-Shumate is the program manager for Biological and Chemical Sciences at APL, leading a diverse research portfolio in novel biomanufacturing; biology- and chemistry-enabled technologies; biological and chemical threat detection, characterization, and defeat; environmental intelligence; artificial intelligence (AI)-enabled scientific discovery; and predictive modeling. Dr. Ratnesar-Shumate’s expertise spans bioaerosol sensing, autonomous pathogen sampling, aerosol fate and transport, biological agent risk assessment, and personal protective equipment evaluation, with notable contributions to understanding SARS-CoV-2 transmission. She serves in editorial and professional leadership roles across the aerosol science community and is a fellow of the Johns Hopkins University Center for Health Security’s Emerging Leaders in Biosecurity Initiative.
