Bio
BioDr. Savvas Raptis is a researcher in the Solar and Space Physics Group within APL’s Space Exploration Sector. His work focuses on key areas of heliophysics, including collisionless shock dynamics, particle acceleration, space weather, and transient processes.
A central theme of his research is the application of advanced computational techniques to solve complex problems in space science. Dr. Raptis’ primary expertise includes: statistical modeling and analysis; neural network and machine learning applications; kinetic plasma physics; and multi-spacecraft and multi-mission data analysis from both in situ and remote-sensing instruments.
Currently, Dr. Raptis is working toward generating machine learning models for space weather applications, investigating particle energization across different planetary and astrophysical systems, and developing new methods for unbiased comparisons between computer simulations and spacecraft observations.
