Bio
BioDr. Joe Caggiano is a research scientist in APL’s Space Exploration Sector whose work applies computational modeling, data analysis, and emerging artificial intelligence methods to space science and mission-critical problems. His recent work has supported efforts in Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) radio-frequency interference characterization, very-low-Earth-orbit (VLEO) environment modeling, moon–magnetosphere interactions of the outer planets, planetary defense, and machine learning approaches for trajectory analysis. He also develops agentic AI workflows to accelerate research, analysis, and software development across technical projects.
Dr. Caggiano holds a Ph.D. in Earth sciences and has a background spanning planetary science, space physics, atmospheric science, numerical modeling, and scientific visualization. At APL, he contributes broad computational and physical-science expertise to an interdisciplinary array of mission-critical problems and applications.
