Bio
BioDr. Manolis Georgoulis is a heliophysicist as well as a science team member of the Parker Solar Probe mission and the mission’s former deputy project scientist (2007–2009). His expertise is primarily on solar magnetism, solar data analysis, and the origins of solar weather that acts to shape space weather in the solar system. He has worked extensively on theory, observations, and data-driven modeling, including nonlinear dynamics and complexity measures in solar active regions, self-organized criticality in solar flares, Ellerman bombs in the low solar atmosphere, azimuth disambiguation and analysis of solar vector magnetic field measurements, inference of magnetic energy and helicity budgets in solar magnetic structures, solar eruption initiation diagnostics, solar flare, coronal mass ejection and solar energetic particle event prediction, forecast verification, and, recently, small-scale solar activity and its relation to the solar wind. He has forged interdisciplinary collaborations with data and computer scientists on applications of artificial intelligence to solar activity modeling and forecasting as well as to solving fundamental partial differential equations in heliophysics. Dr. Georgoulis is a member of the Hellenic Astronomical Society, American Astronomical Society, American Geophysical Union, International Astronomical Union, and International Academy of Astronautics.
