BioDr. Brendan Croom is a postdoc researcher whose work focuses on developing quantitative analysis and testing techniques to relate microstructure and defect populations to the deformation, damage, and failure mechanics of materials. He uses full-field microscopy and deformation measurement methods such as digital image correlation/digital volume correlation, x-ray computed tomography, and in situ mechanical testing to identify the relationship between deformation localization and the underlying structure. This versatile framework is applied to additively manufactured materials, high-temperature coatings, composites, and foams. Additional areas of expertise include microscopy and crystallography, nondestructive evaluation, and plasma spray.
