John Bigelow

John D. Bigelow was appointed as managing executive for the Research and Exploratory Development Department (REDD) at the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) in January 2017. Mr. Bigelow came to APL after nearly 30 years in engineering and technical management positions in the biomedicine, defense, and aerospace sectors, where he held positions such as director of advanced marketing and technology, director of strategic planning, and vice president of engineering and led the development of advanced avionics and spacecraft systems. He spent his early career in the development of signal processing and communications systems. Mr. Bigelow joined the Biomedicine Business Area at APL in 2005 as an assistant program manager for the four-year Revolutionizing Prosthetics program, where he helped structure and execute this dynamic and challenging research and development effort. He rose to branch supervisor and acting program area manager while helping to build the biomedicine business. Mr. Bigelow helped to facilitate the structuring of and transition to REDD, combining the Research Center, the Biomedicine Business Area, and the former Engineering and Advanced Fabrication organizations. He was appointed branch supervisor in 2012.
