Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory To Announce Top Inventions, Inventors at April 21 Event

Mon, 04/18/2005 - 09:44

The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) in Laurel, Md., will honor 191 inventors and announce its top inventions for 2004 at its sixth annual Invention of the Year ceremony on Thursday, April 21, from 5-7 p.m. in APL's Kossiakoff Center.

Lab inventors registered 135 invention disclosures in 2004 with APL's Office of Technology Transfer in subject areas ranging from biomedical applications to space innovations to communications and military enhancements. An independent, outside review panel has selected a winning invention from each of three categories — Physical Science, Information Science and Innovative Contribution to the Military, with the third being a new category this year.

APL Director of Technology Transfer Wayne Swann and former Secretary of the Navy (acting) Robert Pirie will present plaques and cash awards to the winning invention teams.

The event is open to invited guests and the media. Members of the media can contact Helen Worth or Kristi Marren for more information. Directions to the Kossiakoff Center are available in APL's online Visitor Guide.

APL is a leader in defense research and space exploration. The Lab's Office of Technology Transfer helps stimulate economic development by licensing new technologies to businesses both local and across the nation.
