The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) located in Laurel, Md., contributed more than $600,000 to this year’s United Way of Central Maryland and the United Way of the National Capital Area campaigns. APL continues to be among the top supporters in the Howard County campaign.

APL has partnered with United Way for more than half a century with campaign contributions totaling more than $4.8 million since 1990.

In addition to their financial pledges, this year staff and retirees donated more than 1,300 hours to community service projects through the Laboratory’s Days of Caring program and held food, toy and holiday gift drives to help local agencies.

“Once again, APL has come through for the United Way,” says Collette Campbell, regional director of the United Way of Central Maryland. “The staff at APL has kept the safety net strong with its generosity, dedication and support, providing valuable resources to many community agencies and helping those in need.”
