Bohn and Suther to Head Johns Hopkins APL’s Information Technology Service Department

The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory, Laurel, Md., has appointed Eric Bohn as head and Lora Suther as assistant head of its 240-member Information Technology Service Department, which provides business and management software applications in support of the Laboratory’s mission. Bohn also serves as the Laboratory’s chief information officer.

“Eric Bohn has excellent insight and experience in dealing with information technology and business issues,” says Laboratory Directory Rich Roca. “He brings an extremely strong set of tools to this critical management position.”

Bohn joined APL’s Strategic Systems Department in 1970 and has an extensive background in U.S. Navy research and development efforts associated with submarine technology and detection. He was responsible for the development and operation of the Submarine Technology Department’s information communications and all business operations in the department. Since assuming the position of CIO in 2001, he has been responsible for the design, development and operation of APL’s information technology infrastructure. He holds a bachelor’s degree in physics from Drexel University and a master’s degree in applied math from The Johns Hopkins University. Bohn resides in Columbia, Md.

In APL’s Space Department Lora Suther has been responsible for the department’s information technology activities. “Given her highly relevant experience and proven leadership and management skills, she is well equipped for her new leadership role,” says Roca.

Suther joined the Space Department in 1979 and has extensive experience in software development and computer systems management for many satellite missions. She holds a bachelor’s degree in computer science from Kansas State University and resides in Highland, Md.
