Naval Assessment

We assist the Navy and DoD with issues related to military preparedness, operations evaluation, systems engineering and analysis, acquisition planning, and organizational effectiveness. APL's analysts pioneered the field of weapons defense engineering in 1942, and—as a University Affiliated Research Center—have forged a trusted relationship with the Navy and the national defense community to analyze complex challenges and collect and manage vast diverse data sets in order to define and support critical decisions. APL continues as the prime architect for the Sea Shield Capability Pillar analytical process. In this role, APL developed and facilitated two war games, including the principal game involving over 30 flag officers, which provided the basis for the development of the Sea Shield PR-07 Focus Issues, and is responsible for the development of study objectives and methodologies, product definitions, coordination of these studies, and overall integration of results. Senior Navy officers are using the results of these Sea Shield assessments to establish funding priorities for the next 6 years.

Naval Medical Manpower Study Provides Critical Solutions for Critical Care

Naval StudyAPL provided analytical expertise to quantify medical force manpower deployment strategies on the effectiveness and efficiency of naval health care. A strategic analysis process was applied to determine the minimum and appropriate number of medical personnel and specialty areas required to provide both operational health care for the warfighters and expected health care benefits for their families. This analysis will result in a planning tool that will ensure that medical force manpower meets the supply and demand needed to provide health care to warfighters in the field and their families at home.
