The Ocean Surface Wave Identification and Tracking System (WITS)Reference#: P01722
APL-WAVES is a set of integrated software tools for the analysis and
display of ocean surface directional wave data and related information.
Custom wave partitioning and tracking tools provide comprehensive analyses
and display of evolving wind sea and swell systems. APL-WAVES can be
applied to directional wave spectra from any source including surface
buoys, remote sensors, and computer simulations.
Features:
* A wide variety of wave data plotting options
* Wave partitioning for quantifying wind sea and swell system statistics
* Wave tracking for wind sea and swell evolution studies
* Across-basin storm source identification
* Significantly reduced storage requirements for wave information
* Custom Graphical User Interface (GUI)
Applications
* Sea condition analysis for directional wave sensor
* Wave model diagnostics and validation
* Offshore design criteria
* Wave database development
* Analysis and display of archived wave data
Proven Technology
APL-WAVES techniques have been successfully applied to data obtained from
a variety of commerical wave buoys, National Oceanographic and Atmospheric
Administration (NOAA) National Data Buoy Center (NDBC) buoys, and Wave
Model (WAM) predictions.
Availability
APL-WAVES 2.0 runs in the MATLAB Software environment. A stand-alone
executable version will be available soon.
*JHUAPL has exclusively licensed this technology. Please contact John Bacon for potential sub licensing or use of the system.
