Automatic Detection of Seizures Using Electroencephalographic Signals

Reference#: P00334

A patient monitoring system and a method of activating it were developed. The system automatically detects a seizure in the patient by detecting an electrical discharge in the patient's brain. It then converts the detected electrical discharge into a digital signal and inputs the signal into a microprocessor. The system detects a seizure by dividing the digital signals into time segments, preprocessing each time segment (including standardizing the signal), and reducing the signal in each time segment to a feature. The feature provides information about whether a seizure is in fact occurring.
