The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics
Laboratory (JHU/APL) Office of Technology Transfer and the Maryland Technology
Development Corporation (TEDCO)
presented a Federal Laboratory Partnership Program:
Applications for New Communications Technology:
Innovation and Imagination
Highlights from the Event
Attended by more
than 160 people including potential licensees, legislators, commercial
representatives, investors and researchers, the event has generated very
positive feedback. The goal of the showcase was to promote business development
through the commercialization of APL technology. Before the closing of
the event, several opportunities surfaced and over the next several months,
many more are expected.
APL was the site
of the first TEDCO Showcase in 2000 and it continues to have TEDCO as
an economic development partner in Maryland. APL and TEDCO used the September
4 event as an opportunity to sign a formal 3-year extension to their current
Memorandum of Understanding - a pledge to work together to bring new technologies
to local industry. In a letter from Maryland Senator Mikulski that was
read at the showcase, Mikulski said, "This unique cooperative effort
is exactly what we need to advance the application of new innovations
to the nation's technology needs of the 21st century."
