This reception is one of APL's initiatives to recognize technology and innovation at the Laboratory. From January 1 through December 15, 2008 there were 129 inventions disclosed at APL with 193 inventors. The invention disclosures were reviewed and the winning inventions have been selected by an outside review panel based on criteria including: state of development; potential benefit to society; degree of improvement over existing technology; and commercial potential.
