Johns Hopkins APL’s Fox Named to Naval Academy Board of Visitors

Christine Fox, Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory Assistant Director for Policy and Analysis, has been named to the United States Naval Academy’s Board of Visitors. Fox will contribute her leadership experience in research and analysis, and as a Department of Defense senior official, to the Board charged with inquiring “into the state of morale and discipline, the curriculum, instruction, physical equipment, fiscal affairs, academic methods, and other matters relating to the academy which the Board decides to consider.”

“Our national service academies produce some of the country’s most capable, committed and brave men and women, and I’m very honored to be able to contribute to the continued excellence of the Naval Academy,” said Fox.

The Board submits its findings to the President of the United States in an annual written report. Fox was appointed to the Board by President Barack Obama and joins 15 distinguished board members appointed by the President, Vice President, Speaker of the House, or Chairman of the Senate or House Armed Services Committee.

Prior to arriving at APL in 2013, Fox served as Acting Deputy Secretary of Defense and director of Cost Assessment and Program Evaluation (CAPE) for the Office of the Secretary of Defense. While at CAPE, Fox led several Department-wide reviews related to operations, technology and, especially, the budget.

The Naval Academy, located in in Annapolis, Maryland, was founded in 1845. More than 4,500 midshipmen from all fifty states are enrolled, and graduates primarily serve their country through joining the Navy or Marine Corps.
