Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory to Change Telephone Numbers
The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL), Laurel, Md., will change its phone numbers on Feb. 9.
The Laboratory's new number for Baltimore area callers will be 443, coupled with a new exchange, 778. Thus the new Baltimore area main number for the Laboratory will be 443-778-5000.
The Laboratory's new number for Washington, D.C., area callers will be 240, coupled with a new exchange, 228. Thus, the Washington, D.C., area main number for the Laboratory will be 240-228-5000.
In the changeover, APL staff members will retain their present four-digit extension numbers.
APL Communications Services Supervisor Hermie Graham, who is coordinating the changeover, says the recent addition of new Bell Atlantic area codes in Maryland has made it possible for the Laboratory to essentially triple its number of Direct-in-Dial (DID) phone lines. "With this change, we will be positioned to meet the Laboratory's voice and data communication needs well into the future," she says.
The Applied Physics Laboratory is a not-for-profit laboratory and independent division of The Johns Hopkins University. APL conducts research and development primarily for national security and for nondefense projects of national and global significance. Located midway between Baltimore and Washington, D.C., in Laurel, Md., APL employs 2,700 full-time staff.
