MESA USA NATIONAL ENGINEERING DESIGN COMPETITION 2013-2014: Prosthetic Arm Challenge
Prosthetic Arm Scoring Tool - High School
Prosthetic Arm Scoring Tool - Middle School
- Can teams bring a physical model to the competition, or does it have to be represented in a drawing only?
Yes, Reference from page 2: “ Performance – Teams will research, design, build, test and compete using a trans-radial prosthesis designed to complete the following tasks…”
- Can an electronic notebook be used? For example, on an i-Pad?
Yes but, it should only serve as a source of information storage to assist the team in writing their technical paper : Reference from page 13: “… open up your team’s notebook(s) and document everything – even your goofiest ideas and your worst drawings or testing results – then when it come time to write your paper, you should have most everything you need in that notebook to write a strong technical paper…”
- Can the arm have interchangeable attachments? Some teams had this last year (and performed well) but the rules hinted that this wasn’t an option this year.
No, Reference from Rule 1.A.: “This prosthesis must be a generalized tool and include all parts necessary to accomplish all defined tasks.”
