APL’s College Relations Staff asked some recent hires to speak about their experiences as interviewees
and new employees. Here are some of the insights they offered about APL:
Variety
- You can have many different careers during your time at APL (so
you don’t have to look elsewhere when you want to try something
different).
- You can do anything you want. (Well maybe not…but whatever
your interests, you can probably find a project.)
- There’s “a ton” of different projects to work
on, technically challenging problems, with an applied research focus.
APL’s Culture
- It’s a good transition from college to work life.
- APL values independence and professional integrity.
- The atmosphere is quasi-Government, and better than private industry,
because there’s a broader range of work rather than focusing
on just a few things.
- Supervisors don’t look over your shoulder,
and they give you time to learn.
Opportunity
- Peers are one of your best resources. (You need to network, both
socially and professionally. Networking is valuable to help you team
with others and help your team solve problems.)
- The Educational Assistance program lets you go to school part-time,
and the APL culture not only allows but also encourages it.
