Located in our newest office building, a state-of-the-art Fitness Facility is available to staff. The facility contains both a Strength and Conditioning area and an Aerobics and Exercise area. Each of these areas is managed by members of the Exercise or Fitness clubs with oversight by the APL Recreation office. Club members help maintain the Fitness Facility. Membership is available for a modest fee, and l ocker rooms and showers are available.
Strength
and Conditioning Area
Access to the facility is through membership in the Exercise
Club. Staff members organized the clubs and maintain the area,
which is open 24 /7, year-round. The cardiovascular, selectable
weight, and free-weight units offer a variety of user-selectable
programs. All equipment is user friendly and suitable for the majority
of the members (handicapped accessible). All cardiovascular equipment
(treadmills, elliptical trainers, and life cycles) has heart-rate
monitors compatible with the Polar Heart Rate
unit.
The gym is wired for a wide array of
audio/visual options. Three TV monitors currently run the Laboratory’s
CNN feed; audio is available via FM transmitter through personal
FM Walkman-type headsets; and music is available from a five-disc
CD changer. Mats are available for stretching.
Exercise club members offer an orientation/tour
of the gym, including basic principles of working out proper
use of the equipment. Future
plans include fitness assessments and one-on-one personal training
with a certified Personal Trainer (for an additional fee). |
