Growing Future Staff – MESA at APL

MESA logoMESA (Mathematics, Engineering, and Science Achievement) is an investment in our future. Ensuring the supply of science and technology college grads that APL needs requires extra effort to support young students. And the MESA program is our way of providing that support.
Maryland MESA is a pre-college program designed to increase the number of Maryland students — particularly minorities and females — prepared to tackle college majors in technology fields. More than 2,000 students participate each year, 1/3 of them at the high school level. APL staff support remains strong, and new volunteers get involved every year.   APL and its staff have worked with the MESA Program since its inception 30 years age. Indeed, a Lab employee helped organize MESA. Today we support a regional coordinator and Maryland MESA program director.

"By volunteering to work with MESA and attend events and programs related to diversity, I support my belief in diversity and celebrate the unique contributions of others. I also want to pass on to students the knowledge and experience that I have gained that might help them as they make education choices.” L. Dorsey
