Aeronautics
  • Provide system engineering and technical support to ongoing programs involving military aviation systems, tactical aircraft, air-launched weapons, unmanned aerial vehicles, and cruise missiles.
  • Conduct propulsion research and development to advance aeronautics technology and help design future systems.
  • Define end-to-end program requirements and support the design, development, fabrication, integration, and delivery of government or commercial space systems.
Communications Engineering
  • Design and develop new systems and evaluate current systems and networks.
  • Develop, integrate, and evaluate satellite communications and control systems, including ground station and signal-processing equipment.
  • Design, develop, and test microwave radio systems, circuits, and hardware components.
Controls Engineering
  • Apply modem control techniques in diverse technical areas. Examples include implementing Kalman filters in radar tracking algorithms, determining missile accuracy via estimation theory, and analyzing guidance and navigation systems.
Defense Systems Testing and Evaluation
  • Determine the operating characteristics, accuracy, and reliability of ballistic weapon systems.
  • Analyze total systems as well as missile, fire control, navigation, and launcher subsystems.
  • Design and monitor test programs.
Hardware Design
  • Develop working models of electronic systems for applications in nearly every frequency region. Included are projects involving guidance, control systems, communications, signal processing, microprocessor and computer systems, antennas, circuits, advanced radars, and flight-model satellites.
Information Systems/Cyber Security
  • Engineer, evaluate, design, and implement systems for homeland protection, cyber operations, information assurance, and communication systems and network engineering.
Modeling and Simulation
  • Model, analyze, and interpret test results for guidance and navigation systems.
  • Design high-fidelity, object-oriented system simulations and prototype decision support systems.
  • Analyze requirements and effectiveness of military systems in postulated environments.
Network/Communications Engineering
  • Engineer, evaluate, design, and implement communications systems to improve capabilities.
  • Develop and test advanced communications equipment.
  • Investigate and apply advanced computing technologies to client systems.
  • Conduct research and development in information control environments, network management and control, and computational uncertainty.
  • Perform system analysis as well as modeling and simulation for signal processing and control systems and real-time hardware/software subsystems for GPS-based positioning, navigation, and remote sensing systems.
Signal Processing
  • Provide signal-processing and image-analysis expertise based on an understanding of physical theory and its application to new technology-development efforts.
  • Analyze sensor design and requirements and conduct experiments to automate the processing of signals and data.
  • Process recorded sensor signals from various systems and develop new processing techniques.
Software Engineering
  • Develop complex scientific software systems from design through testing and validation.
  • Design real-time systems.
  • Develop advanced, high-definition graphics display systems.
  • Design interactive computer networks.
  • Develop software for spacecraft ground systems.
Space Physics
  • Design space experiments addressing areas such as energetic particles; magnetic fields; solar effects on the atmosphere; and planetary, comet, and asteroid samplings.
  • Design experimental satellites emphasizing geophysics, navigation systems, and spacecraft stabilization.
System Engineering and Analysis
  • Determine the system needed to solve a given problem in an effective and economical way.
  • Represent systems by mathematical models for evaluation and parametric definition.
  • Integrate system parameters.
  • Perform dynamic analysis of closed-loop control systems.
  • Develop and conduct experiments with prototype components, subsystems, and total systems.
