Weather Station

APL has its own weather station and web site. The site provides a variety of useful information and links to students, teachers, and others interested in weather.

U. S. Landform Atlas

color landform mapAn APL staff member created and placed on the web a Color Landform Atlas of the United States. This site has had nearly 2.2 million visitors since May 1995. Each individual site map shows shaded color as well as black and white relief maps, a satellite image, an 1895 map, and a Postscript map. The shaded relief maps were created using arrays of elevation data derived from contour maps. The site includes examples for how to use the atlas as a resource.

Satellite Imagery of the Earth

APL's Ocean Remote Sensing group provides sea surface temperature imagery via the Web for research and educational purposes. This data is received from the Advanced High Resolution Radiometer on the NOAA polar-orbiting satellites by the APL Satellite Communications Facility and is then recorded and processed by the Ocean Remote Sensing Group. Hurricane and forest fire images are also received, recorded, and processed. The image gallery provides other interesting imagery and satellite passes with the viewable regions.
