Undersea Warfare

Programs in APL’s Undersea Warfare Business area support U.S. Navy and Joint missions that constitute this vital defense component. This work focuses on the systems and technologies of undersea military applications, helping maintain the security of our strategic and tactical submarines. Our staff represents a broad set of skills and capabilities from science to engineering. The Laboratory is nationally recognized for its expertise in submarine detection systems based on first principles of physics, as well as our ability to build and test undersea prototype systems. We are a major test organization, conducting extensive, complex R&D operations at sea. As submarine missions have changed over time, APL has continued to be a dependable partner with extensive knowledge of sponsor requirements and the experience to meet the challenges of today’s undersea warfare environment.
