FIRST

FIRST's (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) mission is to inspire young people to be science and technology leaders by engaging them in exciting mentor-based programs that build science, engineering, and technology skills, that inspire innovation, and that foster well-rounded life capabilities including self-confidence, communication, and leadership. APL proudly hosts two FIRST events—the FIRST Tech Challenge State Championship and the FIRST LEGO League state qualifier competition—that are closely aligned with our goal of helping students realize their potential to become STEM professionals.

The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) promotes the art, science and practice of multidisciplinary engineering and allied sciences around the globe. APL partners with ASME to sponsor the FIRST LEGO League and FIRST Tech Challenge for Maryland.
