Joe Purser
Department Head, Deep Futures
US Joint Forces Command (JFCOM)

Joe Purser was a distinguished military graduate from the Colorado State University ROTC program. He entered the US Army in 1976 and served in numerous armor, cavalry, and infantry units in Europe and CONUS. Joe served in the J3 directorate in USCENTCOM and was assigned to the Control, Communication, and Coordination Integration Center (C3IC) of USCENTCOM during Desert Storm, and later to JTF Kuwait. Joe commanded the 3 Sqdn, 16th Cavalry from 1993 to 1995 and served as a joint staff officer in NATO Allied Forces Central Europe (AFCENT) and USACOM/USJFCOM. He retired from active duty in 2000 and worked as a contractor for the Joint Warfighters, a Joint Test and Evaluation program under OSD.


Joe returned to government service in 2001 and has served in the Experimentation Department as Red Team lead, Scenario Development Team lead, and Department Head of the Experiment Support Dept, Joint Futures Lab and J9. Following a year on the JFCOM Commander’s Advisory Group (CAG), he returned to J9 where he is currently the Department Head of the Deep Futures Department. Joe has a Master of Science in Management Information Systems from University of Maryland and maintains a certificate as Information Systems Analyst.
