Rethinking the Principles of War Anthology
to be Published

The US Naval Institute Press announces the forthcoming publication of a new anthology titled Rethinking the Principles of War: The Future of Warfare.

Edited by Dr. Anthony D. Mc Ivor, with a foreword by VADM John G. Morgan, the volume features new work and fresh thinking by 28 leading authors from a variety of military and national security disciplines.

Following an introduction by Lt General James Dubik, Commander I Corps, US Army, and a State of the Question essay from Dr. Colin Gray, the anthology first considers the general question of “An American Way of War?”

The anthology also includes sections on

  • Operational Art – with writers addressing the issues in both conventional and small wars

  • Stability and Reconstruction (Rethinking Phase Four)

  • Intelligence

Footnotes, index and a bibliographic essay make the anthology a useful tool for students of war and general readers alike.  The book is listed on the USNI's List of Forthcoming Books and will be published in late October.

This project is a parallel activity to the Principles of War Essay Contest, but is not based on the contest. The 28 contributors have been selected specifically for this volume, and several have spoken during the series.  The volume is intended for use in coursework at the war colleges, command and staff colleges, and senior level or graduate academic programs in national security.

For information/orders contact: Member Services Group, US Naval Institute, 1-800-233-8764; Hours are 0800 to 1700EST.  More details are available at www.USNI.org
