APL's National Security Space (NSS) business area creates innovative space solutions for critical military and intelligence problems. We develop and execute experimental missions, build space instruments, and produce new applications and tools to meet the needs of the modern warfighter. Through our legacy of excellence and a deep-rooted systems engineering culture, we provide innovative engineering, advanced technology development, and technical advice to organizations within the national security community.

Our significant experience in both civilian and national security space programs allows us to leverage capabilities and accomplishments from NASA programs to address national security space capability gaps and needs.

Space has become a critical part of the Nations strategic posture, and our work reflects our understanding of that role today and in the future. We are developing effective space-based solutions for our nation's critical challenges, including weather, reconnaissance surveillance, space control, missile defense, and homeland security. We are also providing enhanced space support for combat forces in navigation, communications, and targeting.

Our future-oriented programs are focused on technologies and concepts such as space situational awareness, space-based surveillance, hyperspectral applications, space-based laser communications, space radar, unique sensor technology, microsat and nanosat missions, and launch-on-demand options.
