Instructions for Setting Up Processing TASS Data

After downloading the TASS Analysis software, create a directory on your disk to hold the TASS Programs. (eg. C:\TASS). Unzip the five programs and place them in your directory. Also download the Tycho Catalog and place them in a directory. (eg. C:\TASS\Catalog or C:\TASS). You will need to set parameters for some of the programs. In the following web pages, examples of the options windows from those programs are given.

You are almost ready to begin. Download the TASS Data from the JHU/APL CD-ROM or if you are a astronomy club member and have access to the TASS Data Server via a high speed LAN (Cable modem - do not use phone modem). Create the following directory structure:

Copy the TASS Data into the Month directory. I recommend that you copy all three CCD data sets into the same directory. View the data with a FITS viewer program (you can use STAR to view the data). Select a CCD data set that appears to be good image (no clouds, moon, airplanes, etc). You will use that image for the flat field computation. Make a copy of the CCD image and place it in the FLAT directory.

Download the DARK field CCD data sets (you need only one per CCD band). Place it in the DARK directory. If you don't have one that was collected with the star images, look for a dark field image from a previous or later night.

You are now ready to begin to prepare the support data for TASS Data Analysis.
