The APL Astronomy Club Webpages have come under new management. Construction is imminent and commencing henceforth and forthwith. Until more work is done, here is the news of note:
To subscribe to the Astronomy Club mailing list,
The owner of the list (currently Helen Hart) must approve adding you to the list. You will be notified by the listserv when you have been added to the list.
- log into the email account where you wish to receive club email,
- send the following command in the body of an email to LISTSERV@LISTSERV.JHUAPL.EDU:
SUBSCRIBE APL-ASTRONOMY-CLUB-L your_first_name your_last_name, and- make sure you reply to the confirmation email that the listserv shoots back.
Astronomy club annual dues is $25 for the year. Renewals are due each January for the upcoming year. New members may have their dues pro-rated to the month they join. Make a check out to "APL Astronomy Club" (or give Helen cash and make sure she writes down your name!). Privileges conferred by paying dues include
Dues is used to support equipment purchases and club activities.
- the right to use club equipment
- the right to vote for club budgets
- the right to vote for club officers
- the right to become an club officer
Subsequent meetings in 2009 will occur on the third Wednesday of each month EXCEPT June, August, and December, when we will not have regularly scheduled meetings.

________________________________________________________________________ Astronomy Club Meetings are usually scheduled for the third Wednesday of each month, but might from time to time be moved to the last week of the month or to a Friday. We will continue the discussion of potential activities for 2007 and go over some of the equipment available to club members. E-mail the topics you would like to talk about to Steve Conard or Helen Hart. An e-mail will be sent out for the next selected [Meeting] of the club.
In 1999 the APL Astronomy club held a star party for the Deep Run Elementary School. Some pictures and a thank you note were sent to us in appreciation.What else is happening up there? Look at the Astronomy Picture of the Day

The APL Astronomy Club seasonal Star Parties are held four times a year and an annual star party for Club members only. Seasonal star parties are held on Saturday, starting at sunset and lasting for three hours. Exceptions are made during special astronomical events or by special request. The Star Parties are located north of the Ball Fields by the Amateur Radio Club tower.Club astronomers and other enthusiasts will teach, talk, show and share their interest in astronomy. You may see asteroids, planets, galaxies, stars and maybe a passing meteor, a comet or man-made satellites.
We also coordinate some of our activities with the national Astronomy Day and Space Week events by introducing star gazers of all ages to Astronomy. So join the club and share in the excitement of astronomy. If you can't join our club, pick up an astronomy magazine (Astronomy, S&T ) at the news stand and explore it yourself.
